- My Review:
While visiting the relatively new Loudon County winery Stone Tower, I tasted (and purchased a bottle of) a chardonnay sparkling wine, crafted in the traditional "methode champenoise" style. On the nose, this wine presented a very green apple and melon aroma, with carbonation being noticeable. This wine tasted very tart, similar to a green apple, with heavy fruit flavors and a smooth and crisp finish. This wine was well balanced in my opinion, as it had the right level of acidity. Our wine tasting server mentioned that this wine had added sugar after secondary fermentation, but when tasting this wine, I did not feel that the wine was excessively sweet, though it perhaps could have done with a bit less. This is one of just a handful of sparkling wines that I have tasted, and I would say that despite not being crazy about sparkling wine, this wine did not disappoint.
